Some developments are what are described as gated communities. gated communities may be manned or un-manned. Gated communities restrict access to the development to non-residents. The entrance to the development is normally barred by a gate. Resident access is provided by a "clicker" or gate opener or a bar code reader. In non-manned gated communities visitors normally page the person they are visiting via an intercom the resident may then remotely open the gate.
